A sunny hilltop hideaway conjured out of a medieval tower, in a secluded spot between Florence and Siena.
This tranquil retreat is like a Tuscan hilltop village in miniature. The owners – a hotelier and an antiques dealer – have sensitively restored the traditional honey-hued sandstone buildings, retaining original features while giving the interiors a contemporary shake-up with Salone del Mobile statement pieces. Set high in a secluded spot between Florence and Siena, the location makes for utter privacy, peace, and spirit-lifting views across Tuscany’s vine-threaded hills from verandas, garden terraces, and a sensational infinity pool.

A deeply romantic 18th-century villa in sun-dappled grounds just outside Florence.
This historic villa with its sun-baked ochre walls and panoramic views of the olive, vine and chestnut-clad Tuscan hills works as both a secluded retreat for family and friends and a peaceful base for exploring the Chianti wine region and nearby Florence. Restored and furnished by interior designer Ilaria Miani, it has eight elegantly colourful en-suite bedrooms and refined reception rooms including a converted dovecote with views to the Apennines and countryside; outside, sunlight slants through cypress trees and umbrella pines onto a heated outdoor pool in 14 hectares of lawns and wooded grounds. The nearest village, Chiesanuova, is 2km away.

A restored Tuscan farmhouse on a family-owned wine estate, a stone’s throw from Chianti’s prettiest hilltop town.
Just 3km from the medieval town of Radda in Chianti, this sensitively restored five-bedroom Tuscan farmhouse sits on a family-owned wine estate. Perfect for multi-generational gatherings and groups of friends, it has masses of space, from the contemporary living areas to the children’s playground and outdoor pool with panoramic views of the olive groves and vineyards. There’s also a gym and steam room, and for alfresco dining, a pizza oven, barbecue and well-stocked wine cellar. The region is renowned for its pretty historic towns, plus it’s an hour’s drive to the blockbuster cities of Florence and Siena.

A former medieval watchtower converted into a six-bedroom villa on a vineyard outside Radda in Chianti.
Set on a working wine estate, a country mile from the medieval hilltop town of Radda, this six-bedroom villa has sensational views of Chianti’s olive groves and vineyards – especially from the terrace of the tower at one end of the property as the sun sets. It’s ideal for families and friends travelling together, with several terraces for outdoor dining, including one overlooking the pool and children’s play area beyond. There’s plenty to keep all ages entertained, from billiards and foosball to pétanque, plus a yoga studio (on request) and hammam.

Like an architect’s drawing sprung to life, Villa Sunset is a starkly contemporary study in bare concrete, stone, wood and glass – materials championed by its architect creator, Isabelle Milliez.
Set in gardens replanted by Claude Bruno Pépiniériste (an expert on palm trees), the property occupies a prime waterfront position and is flanked by a serene pool. Owned by businessman Dominique Cerutti, it realizes his vision of a luxurious seaside home with outdoor spaces inviting relaxation, contemplation and togetherness. Whether you are planning a multigeneration stay for the extended family or a Mediterranean house party with friends, this is the place to head.
Mellow stone, concrete and wood are the materials of choice, and a natural, muted palette indoors is offset by pops of vivid color in the upholstery and arresting modern art on the walls. Refined textiles and retro furniture, including authentic black leather chairs from the 1970s, add to the designer ambience. Vast expanses of glass, open-plan design and rooms that flow naturally into outdoor spaces, including a rooftop lounge, create airy, light-filled interiors and encourage an open-air Mediterranean lifestyle.

Hidden behind thick walls deep in the Provençal countryside, this residence spread across three levels belies its humble setting.
Sophisticated, stylish and with no expense spared on refurbishment, it has five double bedrooms with en suite bathrooms, plus indoor and outdoor living and dining spaces ample for a house party or large family gathering. Luxuries include heated indoor and outdoor pools, a spa with a sauna, plus an optional full complement of staff – from a chef, butler and babysitter to a yoga instructor – should you want it.
Most surprising of all, some rooms are sculpted from the cliffs that tower above the property and intrude into it, creating walls, ceilings and overhangs with a subterranean feel fit for a troglodyte. Mineral tones, stone and antique wood amplify the impression that the villa is part of nature, while a Lacanche range cooker, Berber rugs, Catalan tapestries and Hervé Baume wrought-iron furniture create a timeless ambiance. In contrast, a Sonos sound system, Liebherr fridge, ice maker, Nespresso machine, wine fridge, Japanese-style Kamado barbecue and aircon throughout are pure 21st century.

High on a limestone hill just outside Saint Émilion, this grand six-bedroom villa riffs off country house codes with quintessentially English prints and patterns side by side with chic French antiques and Scalamandré silks.
Originally built in 1908 and renovated in 2022, the villa “has the uplifting tenor of a Nancy Meyers set, with a breezy, showstopping kitchen and spa-like bathrooms, the scale of which you rarely see in Europe,” wrote Condé Nast Traveller in January 2025. The Financial Times named it one of the best fine wine destinations in the world in 2024: once upon a time, the vineyard was a Grand Cru Classé wine producer. Now, the biodynamic vineyard produces award-winning wines from its hand-harvested grapes and the passionate owner leads private wine tasting tours and exclusive experiences on site, where guests gain access to eight hectares of vineyards and a 1,000 bottle-strong wine cellar.

The unspoilt view over the Luberon Valley is the star of the show at Le Mas Panoramic, hence the name.
But such is the artistic flair on show across the two hectare Provençal estate, you’ll frequently find yourself drawn to details much closer at hand. The statement double pool alone – crafted by Belgian collective Ceci n’est pas une piscine using graphic tiles by artist Robin Vermeersch – will have even the most determined of digital detoxers reaching for their phone to snap every angle.
Inside, the vibrant décor was designed with interior architect Jérémie du Chaffaut, a native of Provence, and features some spectacular tilework, a sculpted double-height tree in the living area, and more than 40 artworks throughout. With peak summer stays including a full staff you’ll be forgiven for thinking you’re the only guests at a chic boutique hotel – there’s even an honesty bar and an electric car to borrow – so for the duration of your stay you’ll be troubled by nothing more taxing than a game of pétanque. The local village of Gordes is hailed as one of the prettiest in France – ask your concierge for reservations at some of its renowned restaurants.

Whether your dream holiday involves reclining in an antique chaise (sourced locally in L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue) with a copy of Jane Austen or Edith Wharton, padding down to the pool to admire the spectacular views of Gordes, or hitting the mountain biking trails of Monts de Vaucluse, Le Mas de Marie is a darling base from which to do all three and more.
The Provençal property is tasteful and traditional, and its hilltop position makes it one of the smartest stays around.
The five double bedrooms – three on the first floor and two in an annex – nod to the Belle Époque era in which the mas was originally built with silk drapes and Victorian tub chairs; a celestial painting by Denis Rivière in the grand living room evokes the heavenly frescoes found in the Palace of Versailles and a Schimmel 132 piano invites guests to fill the space with music. Outside, pale stone, patchwork terracotta, green lawns and lavender bushes set the scene for a 14m swimming pool overlooking the Luberon and Gordes valley.

Hidden amid perfumed gardens and natural rock formations, Villa Infinity appears almost part of the hillside – a contemporary escape that reveals itself slowly as you follow the winding road from the town of Vence along the Côte d’Azur.
Stone walls, clean architectural lines and a glittering heated infinity pool sit in harmony with the landscape, framed by olive trees, lavender, rosemary and ornamental shrubs. Inside, a palette of soft whites and muted grays creates a calming canvas for the ever-changing blues of sea and sky. Light pours through floor-to-ceiling windows, illuminating spacious living areas and framing postcard-worthy views from nearly every room.
Even the sauna has its own window, offering a moment of stillness overlooking the hills. Alongside the spa – complete with a hammam and Jacuzzi – the villa’s terrace invites guests to slow down and relax. Step outside to sun-drenched lounging areas, in-water pool seating and shaded corners perfect for slow afternoons. As the sun sets, guests can gather around the barbecue to grill local seafood or venture into nearby villages for long, leisurely dinners.

Designed by Dutch interior architect Annemarie Breukers, the property was originally constructed in 1936 and extended in 1962 to include a new master bedroom.
The original owner was Claude Perolo, a businessman, bon vivant and close friend of Spanish surrealist artist Salvador Dali – who spent many a summer at the property, painting in the garden and attending social gatherings in nearby Saint-Tropez. The property was recently renovated but its original “Mediterranean-Côte-Scandi” interior prevails. Its light-toned walls contrast with the copper-red quarrystone tile floors to warming effect, and communal areas are adorned with Scandinavian-style fixtures. Eight-seater dining tables, both indoors and outdoors, are perfect for small gatherings.
There are plenty of spaces in which to relax, from the generous living room with its views of yachts crossing the bay of Saint-Tropez, to the vast outdoor area – home to 40 oleander trees. Owing to nearby coastal wetlands and the forested Massif des Maures, the area is a hotbed for wildlife viewing; potential sightings include short-toed eagles and peregrine falcons. The garden, pool and communal spaces serve as great vantage points for admiring the sunset. Villa Vaya is a six-bedroom villa built into the hillside overlooking Paralia Molos, one of the loveliest beaches on the east coast of Paros.
The Greek-Californian duo behind Ese Studio has brought a sensitive, stylish sensibility to the property, newly built from Cycladic stone and decorated with teak wood furniture and abstract art. But it’s the fabulous ocean views that steal the show; even by moonlight, the bay is a sight to behold. Every bedroom is ensuite and opens onto a terrace with ocean views, and the main bedroom has an elemental outdoor shower and walk-in wardrobe.
A private first-floor suite, accessed via external stairs, features its own small pool, an additional main bedroom and a living area with a sofa bed - ideal for young families. Squishy, sofa-like daybeds line the 19.6m swimming pool, the outdoor dining space seats 12 and the indoor dining room up to 20, around a Parian marble table – perfect for when friends drop anchor at Naoussa or pop over from Naxos. Two Greek- and English-speaking staff on site provide a concierge service and round-the-clock support.

You might be tempted to start in the well-stocked wine cellar at Villa Can Victoria, if only to select a bottle worthy of toasting the views from the balcony – a full turquoise sweep of the north Mallorcan peninsula stretching out to the lighthouse at Cap de Formentor.
Built in the 1930s, this five-bedroom mansion has bright lofty living rooms and large windows that frame views of the deep blue beyond. Distractions of a different kind can be found on the lower-ground floor where there’s a gym, a hot tub, a sauna, a hammam, and a cosy cinema room.
Naturally the heated infinity pool takes up prime position at the front of the property so you can still see the sea as you swim, and dining areas both indoor and out make the most of the backdrop. The cute cove of Platja de San Pere is a few minutes' walk away – accessed by steps from the garden – and you can follow the coastal path to the east to find rugged rocky lookout points and secluded sandy stretches.
Sleeps 20
When does a house become a hotel? The extraordinary Tramuntana Mansion, a 14th-century Mallorcan farm estate that has been overhauled by a fashion entrepreneur, is the best of both worlds.
There’s a full team of staff on hand around the clock, an open bar, a chef who prepares three meals a day plus snacks and treats, and a concierge. There are endless activities within the estate’s 40 acres, from hiking and biking to gentle lawn games and sundowners under a Berber tent. The spectacular saltwater pool acts as a natural gathering point throughout the day, with guests dropping in for a dip as the mercury rises.
The mansion’s original features – an olive press, pedra en sec walls – are playfully offset with cool, contemporary interiors such as a bobsled that the owners raced in St Moritz or a provocative print from German Vogue. Impressively, the mansion runs entirely on solar power, recycles rainwater, and grows organic produce in the kitchen garden and orchards. The villa takes its name from the Serra de Tramuntana mountain range that snakes across northern Mallorca, and forms a particularly dramatic backdrop here.
Sleeps 12
Villa Loria is a six-bedroom villa on the west coast of Paros, all sunlight, open space and sea breezes.
It overlooks the ocean and has direct access to Parasporos beach, where the sea twinkles in shades of emerald and turquoise, lapping at the sand and beckoning you into the irresistible water. Back at the villa, prints of sea urchins and coral skeletons are enough to have you reaching for a snorkel to explore the island’s underwater world, before flopping onto a striped sunbed beneath a mimosa-yellow parasol.
There’s a sublime 17m infinity pool and a comfortable outdoor area where everyone can retreat from the midday heat in summer and watch the sun descend over the Aegean (the whole house is air-conditioned, too). The six smart bedrooms are carefully color-coordinated in tones of peach, mustard, sage and teal, and all the ensuites are stocked with delicious bath products by The Naxos Apothecary. Big groups can book Villa Loria with sister property Villa Zohi for more space.

Completed in 2024, Villa Horizon is one of A&K Villas’ newest properties in Crete, and one of our more secluded stays on the island.
The villa has six bedrooms, an infinity pool, gym equipment and a sauna, so your family and friends will never run out of ways to play: there’s also snorkeling and fishing equipment and, best of all, a private beach at the bottom of a short footpath. This is no ordinary beach, either: there are natural plunge pools and platforms to ease yourself into the water; several seating options including comfortable sofas and sun beds; an outdoor shower; and a hidden kitchen en route back to the house for cold drinks and shady pauses.
There’s a “floating” yoga deck purpose-built for flows in the sea breeze, and tons of space for hanging out together or solo. Inside, the first ever item to be purchased for the villa was a piano: fill the place with music and memories, and come back every year for the perfect villa holiday in Crete (it’s particularly irresistible in August, when fruit grows on the fig tree).
Sleeps 18
Paradise Estate is a blueprint for modern travel.
Not only are there seven enormous bedrooms – some with walk-in wardrobes and sea views, others with private hot tubs and terraces, all with hotel-grade bathrobes and coffee machines – but the facilities are such that it offers every kind of holiday to every kind of guest. Up at dawn to work out, or just work? There’s a fully equipped gym, a basketball court, and strong WiFi in every room.
Lie ins and lazy days more your thing? No need to race for a spot – there are endless sunbeds by the 16m pool. Want to unwind solo, or send word to all your friends in Mykonos? There’s premium security on site so you can switch off in peace, plus tons of space for entertaining including a bar in the living room, an outdoor firepit, a 12-person hot tub, parking for six cars, twice-daily maid service and a concierge available 24/7. There’s contemporary art by David Gerstein and Andrea Giorgi, vast expanses of marble in bedrooms and bathrooms, and the legendary beach clubs of Paradise Beach a few minutes’ drive away.

Can Tierra is a celebration of simplicity: lofty, light-filled rooms, exposed sandstone walls, unfussy interiors – all executed with elegance, and designed to get guests outside.
The best view is from the large saltwater infinity pool, which looks out over the peaks and pines of the Tramuntana range and the sweeping countryside below.
Five pretty, pared back bedrooms are split across the house’s two floors, with the main bedroom most coveted for its free-standing bathtub and access to its very own terrace. Late night barbecues – followed by restorative lie-ins and breakfasts that run into lunch – on the patio turn the simplest of meals into a memorable occasion, whether you've spent your day idling by the pool, on a nearby beach, or hiking, biking, and exploring the mountains.

This low-slung minimalist retreat edged in evergreen trees and splashes of bougainvillea reveals its charms slowly.
Villa al Parco is not your average hideaway: take the master suite, for example, which is set on its own floor and carved out of dolomitici stone – a caramel-coloured rock that forms an elemental backdrop to the crisp white living space, with its atmospheric wood-burning fireplace. The textures are just as rich in the other three suites, two of which have Carrara marble bathrooms (all stocked with Acqua di Parma toiletries). The villa was fully renovated in 2022, and the finish is pristine and serene.
Outside, there’s ample space for sun-worshipping and shade for staying cool. The pool terrace has views over the Gulf of Capri and the in-house chef lays on at least one barbecue a week (the outdoor table seats 10); he also has the run of the vegetable and herb garden so everything is as fragrant and fresh as it can be. The best secret of all: al Parco harbours one of the region’s largest private wine cellars, and while the staff expertly advise which bottles to pair with your meals, it’s worth booking a tasting for next-level immersion.

The dazzling Amalfi Coast light floods through the arched windows of this contemporary retreat, with the salty tang of sea in the air from the cove directly below.
The front-row views over the emerald water of Salicerchie Beach from Casa al Lido are truly spectacular. Everything about this place is designed to reflect the scene outside; the crisp white interiors with wave-like floor tiles and splashes of sunshine yellow, nautical blue and navy in the four bedrooms (two of them with sea views, all with slick bathrooms).
Anyone with teenagers in tow will love the kit available for snorkeling, kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding in the quiet bay, while sunworshippers will be keen to snag the four parasols and eight daybeds dedicated for guests at the nearby lido. There’s lots of outdoor space and a hot tub on the villa terrace for lounging nearer to home; a barbecue, outdoor kitchen and dining table (to seat eight) for laidback dinners of the freshest Mediterranean seafood after easy-breezy days; and a TV and sound system for extra downtime.
Sleeps 12
La Perla is a citrus-scented bolthole hovering serenely over Positano.
Calming interiors in many shades of white mean key pieces of Italian craftsmanship stand out: the kitchen and living room chandeliers fashioned from wrought iron by a Sorrentine artisan, the terrace lights sculpted to resemble a vine, the dining table made entirely of Murano blown glass. The latter is the centrepiece for languid lunches and dinners, but there’s also a wood-fired pizza oven and barbecue for laidback feasts (the outdoor area seats 14), all served up with unforgettable panoramic views.
Each of the six double bedrooms has its own charm, with pieces such as a rustic armoire and cocooning four-poster adding hints of French country flair. The heated indoor pool, sauna and steam room make this a villa for all seasons, while the hot tubs (one on the shared terrace and one off a second-floor bedroom) make for blissful soaks after a day ticking off the Amalfi sights. But the real scene-stealer is the terrace, where urns overflow with bright blooms, for spritz cocktails as the lights of Positano begin to twinkle below and the sky is streaked apricot.
Sleeps 12
Sprawling Villa Grande lives up to its name.
Perfectly set up for multi-generational families or friends holidaying together, six equally spacious bedrooms are spread across three floors, with three in stand-alone annexes offering absolute privacy. Built into the cliff in the highest part of Positano, it also has a vantage point with serious wow-factor. Whether relaxing in the lush garden, taking a refreshing dip in the pool or sipping sundowners on the shaded roof terrace, panoramic views take in the picturesque pastel-hued houses of the vertical town, the yachts anchored in the sparkling blue bay below.
On top of all that, what really makes the house stand out (and keeps guests coming back year after year) is the genuine, next-level service. A local cook will pop in to prepare a delicious continental breakfast each day and whip up Italian classics for supper (you can also fire up the barbecue or pizza oven), while a concierge is on hand to help with practically any request, from restaurant recommendations to booking boat trips. There’s also an outdoor hot tub, gym equipment and a wine cellar.

Built on the eastern shores of Lake Como in the early 19th century and originally owned by artist Giuseppe Croff (sculptor of the iconic Veiled Nun), Villa du Lac evokes an enduring sense of grandeur with its marble staircases, parquet floors and gothic windows.
Beautiful antiques – a Sébastien Érard harp; a Vittorio Raineri aquatint; a porcelain clock you half expect to break into an Italian rendition of Be My Guest – have the same effect, while a renovation in 2024 introduced essential modern facilities including a brand-new spa with a sauna, cold plunge and massage area. The sprawling property is staggered over several levels, descending to a private dock on Lake Como, where swimmers can dive in and private boats or water taxis can collect you for day trips.
There seven bedrooms (including two magnificent suites with their own balconies) in the main house. Throughout, you’ll find glossy Carrara marble bathrooms stocked with bath products, robes and slippers. There’s a billiards room with table tennis, a smart gym with lake views beneath the 12m pool (fresh water, heated), and lots of outdoor space for barbecuing, pizza-making, playing and celebrating.
Sleeps 14
Could this infinity pool have the best view in all of Italy? It’s definitely a contender for top spot, set high up on the slopes with Lake Como’s sun-spangled waters below and pine-forested green peaks all around.
Eight bedrooms in cool tones of stone and cream give a Scandi feel to this Gilded Age mansion, built in 1909, where original frescoes and mosaics are still peppered about amid the mid-century modern styling. Hand-crafted wood and marble keep things luxe, and the architectural pool house, with its slide-away glass walls, blends seamlessly into the woodland gardens of lindens, cedars and cypress trees. Younger guests will love the possibility of spotting the flash of a fox tail or deer scampering amid the branches.
Villa Rocco is one for the whole family, with a seriously grown-up gym carved out of the rock alongside table tennis, a pétanque pitch, a pool table and a trampoline, plus oodles of space for spreading out in with books and games. A barbecue and fire pit make for cozy evenings under the stars, and there are two outdoor dining areas with seating for up to 20 people. This is all-round peak perfection.
Sleeps 16
The best way to arrive at Villa Il Molo is by boat: pulling up at its small pontile, the elegant neoclassical mansion can be seen in all its glory.
Set right on the edge of Lake Como in the village of Torno, the expansive terrace is the star of the show. Jasmine envelops a pergola, beneath which an outdoor dining table looks out over the pool, and squishy lake-facing sofas are perfect for early evening aperitivo. It’s a fabulous spot to while away sunny days and laidback nights.
Inside, you’ll find acres of marble, glittering chandeliers, clawfoot bathtubs and stone fireplaces, all befitting a house of this style, scale and grandeur. Alongside more formal entertaining spaces is a conservatory that doubles up as a playroom with table football and tennis, where teens will gravitate. The huge, fully equipped kitchen is ideal for Italian cooking classes and there is a recently renovated annexe to one side of the property suitable for staff, a nanny or a resident chef.
